Thailand may have one more thing to smile about very soon.
As the New York Times reports, Thailand’s military government approved medical marijuana use around Christmas. It would make it the first country to legalize cannabis use in any form in Southeast Asia. In order to become law, King Maha Vajiralongkorn will need to give his seal of approval as well amd it should enter into law around March 2019.
Medical marijuana legalization is a big deal for Thailand, a country infamous for its harsh penalties on drug users. We don’t know if the latest modifications under Thai law are linked to the next election as Thailand is still under military rules. At the same time medical marijuana was approved by the cabinet, Thailand made a step further to recognize same sex unions.
